1987 Larrousse-Calmels F1 Lola T87
The LC87 or Lola T87 was commissioned from Lola by Gérard Larousse for his new F1 team backed by Didier Calmels. Designed by Eric Broadley and Ralph Bellamy it comprised a carbon composite monocoque with double wishbones and pullrods front and rear. Since this was Lola's first F1 car since 1974 (not counting the THL1 Beatrice Lola) and the Larrousse-Calmels team were new to F1 simplicity was the watchword for this new design.
The LC87 made its debut at the San Marino GP where it finished 10th immediately showing its potential. Although occasionally let down by "new car" reliability problems the LC87 ran well all season and driver Philippe Alliot picked up three sixth places, no mean feat for a normally aspirated car against largely turbocharged opposition.
Frequently engineered by Eric Broadley himself, a great deal of development work took place during the season and this attractive looking car improved steadily all year. For the final two races of 1987 a second chassis was entered for Yannick Dalmas who finished fifth at the Australian GP.
The car offered for sale is chassis No1, the Philippe Alliot car, and comes complete with a recently rebuilt Mader 3500cc Cosworth DFZ. The whole car is in excellent condition having been in the possession of the current owner since 1988.
